(Sessions
must be done consecutively within a specified period)
How long
does a procedure take?
The procedure takes about 30 - 45
minutes, but you should plan a total visit of one hour in duration.
What should
I do to prepare for a colon hydrotherapy procedure?
Try not to eat or drink anything 1
hour before your procedure. Two to three days before your treatment,
increase water intake and take some flaks seed oil tablets or liquid. Also,
increase your fiber intake by eating lots of fruits and vegetables and whole
grain foods.
Is the procedure painful?
No, many persons report
their sessions as being soothing, rejuvenating, relaxing and refreshing.
Can a colonic be administered
during a menstrual period?
Yes. Your body is already
cleansing so it is a good time to have a colonic.
What is the colon?
The colon (large intestine),
is the last portion of the human digestive tract. It is approximately 5 feet
long and 2 ½ inches in diameter. The main function is elimination of waste
and absorption of water and minerals.
What is constipation?
Constipation is any form of congestion and is usually
accompanied by dehydration. One bowel movement a day is a sign of
constipation and incomplete elimination is a form of constipation. Some
symptoms are overweight, fatigue, irritability, mental confusion, bloat,
gas, indigestion, headaches, migraines, earaches, sinus drainage, allergies,
anxiety, depression, unsatisfied hunger, and poor circulation.
Is it normal for some persons not to
release during the first colonic?
Yes, it is quite normal for some
people who come in for the first time not to release. There are persons who
might be disappointed because they expect all the waste to be removed from
their colon. When this does not happen, some clients do not want to come
back because they feel that their colon is empty and they wasted their
money. When nothing comes out the first time, it is a more difficult case.
The ability or inability to release is one of the ways to assess a colonic
session.
A diet low in fiber and lack of
water can cause stagnation and lead to constipation. You can prepare before
the first procedure by; drinking a half of your weight in ounces of water
daily (e.g. 150lbs divided by 2 = 75 ounces of water), and making fruits and
vegetables the bigger parts of your meals.
How does a colon hydrotherapy
(colonic) treatment compare to an enema?
An enema only reaches the
rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with colon hydrotherapy the
entire length of the colon (5 feet long by 2 ½ inches in diameter) is
cleansed.
Should I visit my doctor
before my first colon hydrotherapy session?
If you have a concern about your
health or the appropriateness of colon hydrotherapy
you should consult a doctor. If you are diagnosed with diverticulitis,
ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, severe hemorrhoids, rectal or
intestinal tumors, you would not be a candidate for colon hydrotherapy
treatments.
Is there any chance of
bacterial or viral contamination from prior use of the colon hydrotherapy
equipment?
Modern colon hydrotherapy equipments utilize pre-sterilized, disposable
hoses and speculums. These disposables are used only once during a single
therapy session. Properly administered, there is absolutely no danger of
contamination.
Will I experience any
intestinal discomfort or fatigue after the cleansing?
Usually not, but since the
cleansing will stir up a lot of old debris and toxins, you might experience
some minor nausea or fatigue. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to
rest and apply a warm heating pad to the abdomen. If you wish, a mild
vegetable broth or peppermint tea is usually soothing at this time. Any
discomfort will usually pass within 24 hours.
Do I need to take acidophilus
(good bacteria) after a colon cleansing because intestinal flora has
been washed out of the colon?
Colon hydrotherapy cleansings do
not wash out intestinal flora. Taking acidophilus after a colon cleansing is
beneficial, because it helps to improve the bacterial balance in the colon.
The best method is to implant the flora rectally the evening after your
final therapy session, or if you prefer, to drink acidophilus for two weeks
after the final therapy session.
